Things I Consider Ancient
The Telephone.
I don't know about you, but I'm much more of a texting type girl than one who would pick up the phone and give someone a call. The funny thing is, this little piece of technology used to be the only way to make weekend plans, have after school gossip sessions with girlfriends, and contact cute boys and then giggle about it with those same girlfriends afterwards. Do prank calls even still exist? Half the fun of being a kid was prank calling random places for a good laugh.
Now that cell phones have taken over, it's pretty easy to see who's calling and decide if you want to answer it or not. Even then, are you a lengthy cell phone talker, or a reply-via-text type person?
It makes me a little sad knowing that the good old telephone which sparked so many late night conversations and relationships might not be around for my own future kids to enjoy. All I can say about today's technology is that it's just not the same.
Fax Machines.
I wish these things would all be burned! This is completely the opposite of my opinions above, however, I just cannot stand fax machines. This is one case where the evolution of technology has eliminated the need for these chunky clunky things.
One of my biggest pet peeves: someone asking if I can fax them something. Seriously? Fax? You know this is 2011 right? There is this thing called email now... and that printer over there, it can most likely scan your fax and send it right to me via email. It also doesn't require a phone line, wasted paper, and a whole other desk for it to sit on. I'm pretty sure fax machines are the only piece of technology since eight tracks that haven't phased out. Let's not even start on fax spam...
Other pet peeve: how much time I just spent looking for a cool fax machine photo. Note: there aren't any. See, fax machines are lame.
Isn't it weird though how such common things are now considered vintage and cool? Such as those old telephones... or vintage cameras. I sometimes like to wonder about what will be considered "cool vintage" when we are older. People will be taking photos of our silly digital cameras with their more advanced, high tech devices and selling it as artwork.
What do you consider to be ancient?
