This summer, I've been obsessed with golden eyeshadow. I just think that it is such a perfect shade for summer and brightens up your whole face with a bronzed glow. I wanted to throw together a little 8 step tutorial showing you how I create my typical summer eye. Step by step instructions are below!
1. Prepare your face and prime your eyes. I used Urban Decay's Primer Potion. 2. Fill your entire lid with a velvety gold or bronze eyeshadow. I used Mac shadow in Woodwinked, which is one of my absolute all-time favs! 3. Brush some medium to dark matte brown shadow onto the outer corner of the lid, and sweep it up and over your crease. Blend well. I used Rock & Republic shadow in Tribal (another of my favs). 4. Continue with that same brown and brush it under your lower lash line. Keep it close to your lashes. 5. Highlight your brows by brushing on a matte white shadow with a flat brush. I used Everyday Minerals shadow in Bundled Up. Blend it into the brown so it's not so harsh. 6. Curl your lashes and line the upper lids with a kohl liner. I winged my tip a little. I used Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal liner in black. 7. Continue lining under your eye and on your waterline. 8. Add mascara to your top and bottom lashes. I used Rimmel Lycra Lash Extender.
We can't forget about our little friends this summer! They enjoy the sunshine just as much as you do, unfortunately they can get heated pretty quickly. Why not cool them down with some easy to make frozen treats? Your pup will love you a million times more once he gets his paws on this yummy delicacy. The version I made is also great for cats, because let's face it, they tend to get jealous if I spoil my dog more than them! I'll include another recipe just for dogs at the bottom of this post!
You will need:
Ice cube tray
Can of tuna
Some water
A mixing bowl or Magic Bullet
A ziploc bag
Start by mashing up the tuna in your bowl or stuffing it into your food mixer. Don't drain the tuna water, it helps with the freezing. Add about half a cup of water to the mix.
Then mix up that tuna! I used my Magic Bullet, because really, it's my go-to kitchen appliance and takes 10 seconds. Yum... doesn't that just look delicious?...
Fill your Ziploc bag with the mix and cut a small hole in one end. This helps save you from making a huge mess while filling up the ice cube trays. Fill your trays and place in the freezer for a couple hours.
Let pets lick the bowl. When they're nice and frozen, you can pop them out and let your pets have a taste! I recommend letting them chew on these on a tile floor or a plate, because I'm pretty sure you don't want tuna bits all over your house. You can store these in a plastic bag in your freezer for up to 6 months, so if you make a bunch you can always have some on hand!
Bear was super excited about this new treat! He snatched it right away from those pesky kitties and gobbled it up! Here an an alternate recipe for your pups only:
32oz. plain low or fat free yogurt 1 ripe banana 2 tbsp peanut butter (natural and salt free is best) You can also add in other fruits like blueberries or anything that is safe for dogs to eat! Mix it all together and follow the same steps above!
If you don't want to use yogurt, other freezable bases you can use are chicken broth, beef broth, water (like I did), fruit juices (natural or "no sugar added"), and baby foods (natural/organic fruit or vegetable blends). *make sure nothing has onion in it.

Summer is upon us and what a better way to celebrate than a new blog series! I'll be creating a ton of summer themed posts over the next little while and there was no better place to start than with this easy hair DIY!
I'll show you how to create your own sea salt spray so you can look like a beached mermaid! It's so simple to do and works on any length of hair, or any hair type! I'm talking a lot of texture here, people!
You will need: Empty spray bottle 2 cups of warm water 2 tbsp of sea salt or epsom salt (note: do NOT use table salt!) 2 tbsp of rubbing alcohol (you can also use vodka!) a glob of hair gel for staying power *optional: coconut or essential oils for that summer scent!
Mix all of the ingredients together in your spray bottle and you're set! The alcohol helps the mixture last longer and also combats oily hair. We don't want oily, we want texture! You can add a little conditioner to the mix if you like as well if your hair is super dry. Spray it onto damp hair, scrunch, and let dry. Remember to shake it up before every use. I don't recommend using it every day because it will dry out your hair if you use it all the time. Now go on and hit the beach!!!
As a kid, I always had a fascination with makeup. I would peek through my mom's little makeup bag and play around with the pretty things I would find. Even though I was a little too young to be wearing makeup, I was always experimenting in my bedroom mirror. I used to read Seventeen magazine back then, too. I remember finding this lip gloss tutorial among the pages and becoming completely obsessed with it. The colour possibilities were endless! The mess I would make was huge but I didn't care! Here is that same DIY project... (a little cleaner this time!):
You will need:
- Vaseline
- Powdered eye shadow or blush
- Small empty container
- Small mixing utensil
1. Fill your container with Vaseline (petroleum jelly). 2. Sprinkle your favourite eyeshadow or blush on top. I used Everyday Minerals blush in DVR Saturday. 3. Mix it all together well. Clean up the edges. 4. Apply!
Probably the easiest tutorial in history, but there you have it! Vaseline is also amazing for your lips, so you have an added benefit! If you can't find it in your drug store, check the baby section. For some reason they like to hide it away there even though it's used for millions of things (makes an awesome gentle eye makeup remover too!). Remember how I recently talked about Facebook's algorithm on my post titled "Facebook's Pay to Promote... Calm Down!"? To recap, I talked about how Facebook has always used an algorithm to determine what posts you actually see in your news feed, and how simply clicking the "show in my news feed" button on a Page does not mean that post will show up in your news feed.
Today, I wanted to give you a super simple way to make sure you see every post from your favourite Pages. All you have to do is set up a quick Facebook List and you'll never miss out on a post! Follow these steps below to get started:
Step 1: You can start by heading on over to my Facebook page and "Liking" it if you haven't yet. (Head on over there anyways to start setting this all up!) Next, click on that little gear icon beside the "Liked" button and choose "Add to Interest Lists..."
Step 2: If you have no lists created, create a new list as shown below:
This popup will open, click Next:
Step 3: Choose a List Name like "Favorite Pages" or "Posts I Don't Want To Miss"... Anything you want! You can then choose who can see what pages you have in your list. Click Done when you are set.
Now when you view your Facebook home page, or News Feed page, you'll see your new list in the sidebar, like so:
All of the posts from the Pages in this list will appear here. It's a shame that they won't all automatically show up in your actual news feed, but clicking on that link to your list will make sure you don't miss a thing! If you want to move your List name to the top of your sidebar instead of at the bottom, just click on the little edit icon beside the List name and "Add to Favorites":
It will immediately move that link to the top of your sidebar!
You can now add other Pages to this list. On the right hand sidebar, Facebook suggests some pages for you that you can easily Add. You can also type in some of your fav page names in the "+ to this list" textbox.
Now whenever you are on somebody's Facebook page, you can simply add them to your List! Just click the gear icon again and "Add to interest lists" as shown below:
Voila! If you want to support your favourite pages, this is a great way to stay updated. Interacting with their posts also contribute to their Pages being visible in the actual news feeds, so don't be shy!

I spent the past two days getting this little project together and am happy with how it turned out! I wanted to create some custom boho style shorts like the ones you see at Free People... but obviously I didn't want to spend any hard earned cash on something I knew I could pull off. Get ready for a long, photo-filled DIY project, friends!
For my shorts, I used a pair of old unauthentic Rock & Republic jeans (ew). If you know me at all, I'm a huge designer denim fanatic and am 100% against fakes (do you like funding terrorism? I sure don't...). I purchased these in my uneducated days from Ebay and never ended up wearing them after I realized the seller sent me a faux pair. So, what a better way to make use of some unused denim than to tear these babies up and create something totally new?! I also used a bunch of vintage fabrics I had sitting around...

Hi Everyone! I've owned my navy blue Toms since 2006 when they first came out. But I've hardly ever worn them because I always feel so weird wearing navy blue shoes with navy blue jeans. I guess it makes me feel like I'm wearing a onesie on my bottom half only, hehehe. This last week I finally decided to add a little color to my Toms so I can start wearing them again. Perhaps you'd like to make your Toms a little extra special too?
What you will need:::
A pair of canvas shoes Fabric paint Q-tips {or paint brush}
I went with some pretty low key colors for my Toms because I didn't want to constantly feel like my shoes clash with my outfit. {Actually, if we're being honest, The Beard told me I needed to go with low key colors because he knew if I chose a bright color I'd feel like I needed to match it. At least he understands my neurosis right?} Since mine are navy blue I chose white and baby blue.
I didn't want to completely cover any sections of my shoes and I also didn't feel confident enough in my sketching abilities to really do anything elaborate so I decided to just go with some cute little polka dots.
For starters I took the lid off the fabric paint and dipped the Q-tip directly into the paint bottle. I discovered that the canvas absorbed more of the paint than I expected so I had to get a quite a bit of paint on the Q-tip for it to really show up well.
I began with the heel and sporadically placed dots of white paint. I skipped the middle portion of the shoe which I wanted to leave as it was and moved to the front part. It was really hard for me to place the dots randomly and not form a grid, but I think I did ok!
After I'd put as many white dots as I wanted I filled in the empty sections with baby blue dots.
At this point I thought I was finished but decided I just couldn't live without at least a tiny pop of contrasting color. What better place than the tags? I carefully stuck a piece of masking tape behind each of the tags to keep paint off the canvas behind them.
Then I used a paint brush to give the tags a very thin layer of paint so the letters would still show through.
Ta Daa!
Now I have personalized Toms that will go with a wide variety of outfits. Just a splash of pattern and color was exactly what they needed.
