inspiration for your walls

Lately I've been getting bored with my walls. I have a slight obsession with picture frames. I can spot them from a mile away at yard sales. I am not afraid to pick them out of people's garbage bins. My whole house is covered in them. Our living room, however, was lacking somehow. I had my picture frames hanging in there for quite a while, but was never fully satisfied with how they looked. The area was too large. I needed to fill up that huge space somehow, so after a little digital sketching (so I could work out where each frame would be positioned before punching a bunch of holes in the wall) I decided to spread them out more, higher up, and here is my result:

Below is what it looked like before (sorry about the crappy photo, I forgot to take a "before" shot and had to find this one on my computer):

I changed out some of the artwork and added a few embroidery hoops fitted with fabric for a little extra pop of colour. I am loving this arrangement so much better! I feel like it just brightens up the space so much. What do you think?

I've been collecting some inspiration for some of my other walls, such as this:

Plates! I love this setup! I am always afraid of putting plates in my wall though in case they happen to fall off and smash! If I had a beautiful colourful collection such as this though, I'd probably get over that fear!

x

I love the randomness of this setup. Vintage finds all placed inside of old crates and wooden shelving. The chalkboard wall behind it is so fun too!

Loving this idea, and how easy would it be to just make some quick art out of twigs!? I'd probably paint the frame, though.

This would definitely be too bold for my place, but I love the idea. You could even do it in chalkboard paint and change out the message whenever you please!  Cute!!!

Similar to what I have going on in my house right now, but I love the addition of the deer antlers and larger pieces of art to completely fill up the wall!

Branches!! Loving this so much! I wish I could have found a better photo.  This would be an instant way to draw attention to a feature wall.

Sometimes a little rearranging is all you need to improve a space!

Smitten.

Happy Monday friends! I know the words HAPPY and MONDAY don't usually go together, but I hope you had a great weekend at least!

Ours was busy. We went out both Friday and Saturday to look for a new car.  Can I just say now that I kind of dislike car shopping?  I had no idea that I had NO idea what exactly I was looking for.  I think we've settled on the idea of an SUV but our opinions differ a bit on makes/models.  So, we didn't end up taking one home with us but I think it worked out for the better because....

Dustin got the job!!!!  He went in for an interview last week and nailed it. He got hired into a manager position straight off the bat and is in charge of the whole online sales division for (get this)... an automotive dealership!  I'm pretty sure it is fate how everything has been working out.  So he starts Tuesday and then he can actually sell himself a car, earning commission, getting a better deal, and seeing the stock before it's even available to anyone. I'm kind of really excited and so proud of him!!!

Yesterday we went out shopping for work clothes for him. It was fun and I was able to get a bit of a shopping fix. I haven't been out shopping in a retail store in forever.  It felt good!!!

We stopped by Canadian Tire and I trailed off into the holiday decor section.  I was stopped dead in my tracks when I reached the Christmas tree decoration aisle.  Completely, utterly, I'd-better-not-squeal-and-scare-other-customers smitten with the brand new Debbie Travis holiday decor line!!!  My heart stopped when I turned to face the wall of shiny, beautiful things.  The Heirloom collection was facing back at me and I just knew it right then and there that this was my holiday decor inspiration.

Can you say O.M.G.? Pastel pinks, corals, creams and golds!  Cameos and antique keys!!  I am in LOVE!  Not to mention the most gorgeous Christmas tree bows I have ever seen, in a vintage style crochet lace!

Dustin literally had to pull me out of this section like a little child.  I did manage to snag a couple of items during my exit though!

I grabbed a wreath, some of the most gorgeous little bows, some pink and cream flowers and a roll of ridiculously pretty ribbon!  (Project: Most Beautiful Wreath Ever coming to a blog near you soon)!

Decorating a Christmas tree is one of the things I anticipate most about the holidays. Can I just start now? I mean, we haven't even thrown out our pumpkins yet but I'm soooo ready!

Debbie's holiday decor consists of a bunch of other collections as well.... all equally beautiful!!!!

Have you started thinking about your holiday decor yet, or am I just crazy!?

Bedroom Tour

I know that you are all dying to see where "the magic happens".... ok really I just had nothing else to blog about today, so I decided to take you on a tour of my bedroom!! Yippee!!

My bedroom is the result of some intense planning and hunting for the perfect items. Seriously, I thought up most of the furniture and decor in my head and then set out to find it. Of course, I had no idea if such things even existed but I came pretty darn close to what I had initially pictured.  Without further ado... Benny and I will take you on a tour of the bedroom...

So if you can already tell, I'm a tiny bit obsessed with french provincial and chandeliers...

That headboard is my FIFTH CHILD! (the pets come first, obvi).  It came all the way over from the UK, and let me tell you, it was definitely an experience obtaining it. First of all, it's from the UK so right away it's like a million times more expensive than anything here, but I didn't care because it was perfection!  Secondly, the shipping took about 3 months and I had to have special people pick it up along the way, hand deliver it to the customs offices, go to said customs offices hours away just to sign for it, and then have a special delivery service send it to my house because there was no way that thing was fitting in my trunk.  I didn't even get to unwrap it for a couple of months because we were in the process of moving and I didn't want to get it dirty. Can you imagine? Waiting for something sooo long and then not opening it until months later?  It was worse than finding hidden Christmas presents.

All of the other furniture was found from classified ads or garage sales. The bed set is Martha Stewart.  The colours are all white, teal and turquoise. The walls are painted a grey/blue... sorry I have no idea what the actual name of it is because it was custom matched to the wallpaper that covers a wall with a big window in the middle.

The dress form lady holds all of my necklaces.  I gave her some clothes, and actually got that furry vest just for her!

I love my bedroom. It's actually pretty large and there are some less attractive things I left out, such as the TV mounted on the wall, the bathroom, and my walk-in dungeon closet, but you get the idea ;)

EDIT: ok ok, bonus pic....
